Family & Background
Monsignor George Rost was born October 23, 1924 in Columbia, PA, son of the late Martin F. and Marion A. Smith Rost.
Education:
He was a graduate of Columbia High School,

St. Charles College, Catonsville, MD,
St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and Bachelor of Sacred Theology degree.
Sacred Orders:
He was ordained to the Priesthood May 19, 1951 in St. Patrick Cathedral, Harrisburg by the late Most Rev. George L. Leech and was named an Honorary Prelate with the title of Monsignor in 1970. 
Assignments:
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Lancaster 1951-1953;
Vice Chancellor and Secretary to Bishop Leech 1953-1960;
Founding Pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Harrisburg 1960-1968;
Pastor of Assumption of the BVM Roman Catholic Church, Lebanon 1968-1980;
Pastor of Basilica of the Sacred Heart (Conewago), Hanover 1980-2000;
Served as a Retired Priest at St. Benedict, Lebanon 2000-2002, followed by residence at the Priest's Retirement Residence, Harrisburg in 2002.

Monsignor also served as:
The Diocesan Commission of Sacred Liturgy,

Former Dean of Lebanon and Hershey,
Vice Chairman of the Priests Advisory Council,
Pro Synodal Judge for the Tribunal,
Diocesan Liturgical Commission,
and the Diocesan Board of Consultors.

Monsignor Rost passed on to the Lord Jesus on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 in St. Anne's in Columbia, PA.  
Grant eternal rest onto him o Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.  May he and all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.  Amen.
